Building Independence: Outreach Services

Advanced Independence Training

Dale Brain Injury Services provides short-term, individualized Independence Training Services to people living in the community with the effects of an acquired brain injury.

Participants who access advanced independence training strive, with our assistance, to:

  • increase their independence
  • learn and maintain new skills
  • expand their community involvement
  • improve their self confidence, self esteem, quality of life and coping skills
  • work to enhance their relationships
  • reduce staff involvement

Services are scheduled on an hourly basis for a short term, as determined by the individual’s Achievement Plan.

Past participants of Independence Training can contact Dale Brain Injury Services at any time for assistance with achievement of new goals, or skill building.

Supported Independent Living Services provides an individually tailored, flexible approach for people living with the effects of an acquired brain injury within their own community in Southwestern Ontario.

Every participant involved in the Supported Independent Living Services program is focussed on objectives that allow them to:

Visits are prescheduled on an hourly basis and are designed to address any needs a participant may have. Staffing patterns can change over time, as determined by the individual’s needs. Some individuals require this service for many years, or on a life long basis, other participants may use the Supported Independent Living Services on a limited basis.

If required, staff will accompany participants on community recreational outings, and can support attendance at educational, volunteer, or vocational placements.

Caregivers can benefit from the respite this program provides and individuals who need help to maintain, or recover gains made during rehabilitation programs are also welcome to participate.

Although there may be a waiting list for some services, particularly in some counties, it is important to contact the Admissions Department for a pre-service interview as soon as possible.
